Extra Curricular Activities
Our programme of after-school clubs has been carefully selected to enrich and extend our curriculum, develop the whole child and provide meaningful opportunities for children to discover new interests and talents.
We want our clubs to offer experiences that may not always be possible within the school day, giving children opportunities to learn through doing, explore new interests, develop skills and experience success in different ways.
Enhancing the curriculum
Our clubs complement the breadth of the primary curriculum, providing opportunities to apply learning from English, mathematics, science, computing, art, design technology, PE, music, geography and PSHE in practical and engaging contexts.
Rather than simply repeating classroom learning, clubs encourage children to create, investigate, perform, problem-solve, collaborate and explore. They can help children make connections between their learning and the wider world, while developing a love of learning.
Developing the whole child
Our provision recognises that children's development extends beyond academic achievement. Clubs provide opportunities to develop:
- confidence, self-esteem and independence
- communication and oracy
- creativity and imagination
- resilience and perseverance
- teamwork and cooperation
- problem-solving and critical thinking
- physical and emotional wellbeing
We want every child to have the opportunity to find something they are good at, try something new and discover interests that they may continue beyond primary school.
Living our school values
Our five core values are embedded within our club programme:
Welcoming – developing friendships, celebrating diversity and learning about different cultures and perspectives.
Commitment – encouraging children to practise, persevere, overcome challenges and take pride in their achievements.
Nurturing – promoting care for ourselves, others, animals and our environment, alongside supporting wellbeing.
Togetherness – developing teamwork, collaboration, listening and shared responsibility.
Respect – valuing different ideas, abilities, cultures and opinions and treating others with kindness and consideration.
Our aim
Ultimately, our after-school clubs are about enriching children's experiences and developing the whole child. We want children to leave each club having learned something new, developed a skill, challenged themselves, built relationships or discovered something they enjoy.
Our clubs contribute to our aim of developing confident, curious, resilient and considerate children who are willing to try new things, work with others and make a positive contribution to their school and wider community.
