Climate Change and Sustainability
At Broomwood Primary School, we are committed to preparing our pupils for a sustainable future. We want our children to care for their environment and to grow up with the knowledge, skills and confidence to make a positive difference.
In line with the Department for Education’s Sustainability and Climate Change Strategy, all schools must have a Climate Action Plan and a named Sustainability Lead by 2025. Our plan sets out how we will reduce our environmental impact, protect and enhance nature, and embed climate education across the curriculum.
Our priorities include:
-
Reducing our carbon footprint through energy efficiency and travel
-
Protecting biodiversity by enhancing our school grounds and creating spaces for nature
-
Building resilience to climate change in our school community
-
Inspiring pupils through climate education and outdoor learning
At Broomwood we are developing the role of eco councillors in the school as we want children to take an active role in how the school understands and works to improve how we respond to climate change. Developing knowledge and a greater understanding of this is developed through a number of subjects – Science, Geography, PSHE and RE.
