This year you are lucky enough to have Mrs Stephani (M-W) and Mrs Lindop (W-Fr) as your child's class teachers. Miss Walton is our EYFS advanced practitioner TA, who will work with our Preshcool children. Mrs Brookes and Miss Green are also TA's whole support within Little Oaks.

We will be doing forest school every Wednesday so please come dressed appropriately – during the summer please make sure your child is wearing appropriate clothing including a hat. 

Stretch and Grow will be on a Monday afternoon and a Friday morning. Please send your children in comfy active clothes so that they can join in! 

It is important that your child builds up a love of books and reading for pleasure! Preschool will read- Happy To Be Me and The Colour Monster.

Reading to your child every night is so important to help to develop their communication and language skills. This is also a precious time for you to share with your child. 

In school, we also share stories daily and base some of our learning around a chosen key text. We focus on orally re-telling the stories, adding actions and making marks to represent the characters and key parts. 

Our Autumn Term topic focusses on What Makes me me.

We will be learning about these questions, do you look like me? What did we look like when we were younger? History Focus, What is my favourite toy?, Who are the people who live in my house?

Our Personal, Social and Emotional focus for this term will be...

-Is learning to use the toilet with help, and developing independence

-Is beginning to notice and ask basic questions about differences, such as skin colour, types of hair, gender, special needs, disabilities and religion.

-Is showing an interest in becoming more independent, rejecting help (“Me do it”). Sometimes this leads to feelings of frustration and tantrums.

-Looks back when walking away from a key person, looking for cues on how to respond to something interesting.

-Begins to express preference and decisions. He/she also tries new things and is starting to establish his/her autonomy.

Our Communication and Language focus for this term will be...

-Follows an adults gaze. (Linked to Wellcomm section 1)

-Enjoys singing and music and will make sounds to get attention in different ways.

-Understands frequent words like ‘all gone’. ‘no’ and ‘bye bye’

-Understands simple instructions like “stop”

-Is beginning to focus on an activity of his/her choice but will get easily distracted.

Our Physical Development focus for this term will be...

-Enjoys moving when outdoors and inside

-Occasionally, claps and stamps to music

-Fits himself/herself into spaces, like tunnels, dens, and large boxes, and moves around in them.

-Is showing an interest in kicking and throwing balls

-Shows an interest in building, using a range of resources.

-Walks, runs, and is developing jumping and climbing, and is starting to use the stairs independently.

-Spins and rolls with developing control and uses ropes and swings with support e.g. tyre swings

-Sits on a push-along wheeled toy, begins to use a scooter or ride a tricycle.

-Beginning to show counting like behaviour such as making sounds, pointing or saying some numbers in sequence.

-Build with a range of resources.

-Combine objects like stacking blocks and cups. Put objects inside others and take them out again

Our Understanding the world focus for this term will be...

-Become familiar with different elements of their new school routine such as snack time, carpet time etc.

-Begin to understand that they come to school during the day but their grown-up picks them up afterwards.

-Listen and become familiar with the days of the week song.

-Begin to develop an awareness of Autumn.

-Observe photos of when I was a baby, talking about physical features such as hair colour, eye colour, clothes, size, food etc.

-During transition, talks about what they like/dislike (foods, toys etc.)
