Adults Who Support Us
Mrs Cannon is your class teacher and on a Thursday, Mrs Powell will be teaching you. Throughout the day, we will also be supported by Mr Hamnett, Miss Stairmand and Mrs Chaisty.
Mrs Ash will teach us yoga.
Routines
Daily Timetable
Our Nurture Centre is designed to provide a calm, nurturing and highly structured learning environment where every child can learn at their own pace and achieve success. Activities are supported by visual now and next boards which help children understand what they are doing now and what is coming next, supporting successful transitions between activities.
Our daily routines will offer flexibility for the children, however we will follow a general structure which the children will have their own visual timetable for:
On arrival to school, the children will engage in a morning task. This will be followed by an activity linked to zones of regulation. Mornings will include literacy, maths and phonics activities whilst the afternoons will include activities linked to our current topic, PSHE and speech and language. Our lunchtime is 12.15 - 1pm where the children will have an option to integrate into the school hall or the playground with Mr Hamnett if they feel that they would like to do this. Developing speech and language is embedded into everything that we do. However, the children will have their own individual targets which will be planned for throughout the week.
On a Tuesday morning, the children will visit the local boxing gym where we will learn boxing techniques as well as participate in circuit drills. On a Thursday, the children will participate in a forest school morning with Mrs Powell in our school grounds.
Clothing for Activities
On a Thursday, the children should come into school dressed in their clothes for forest schools. They should have their uniform in a separate bag to get changed into after the session. PE kits will be required for the week so that the children can change for boxing and any further PE sessions.
Curriculum
For the first half term in Autumn, our topic is: Buried Treasure - The Anglo Saxons.
As historians and geographers, we will be learning where the Anglo Saxons were from and explore Anglo-Saxon homes, food, work and childhood, comparing daily life with our own. In addition, we will investigate Alfred the Great’s achievements and explore the mystery of Sutton Hoo using artefacts.
As scientists, we will learn about light, investigating shadows.
As artists, we will learn how to use incised carving and relief carving in clay before designing and making our own Pict stone out of clay.
As writers, we are reading a book called Counting on Katherine: a children's biography about Katherine Johnson, the mathematician whose calculations helped NASA send astronauts into space and return them safely. We will use colourful semantics to develop vocabulary, understanding of language, comprehension skills and awareness of sentence structure. In addition, blanks-level questioning will be used to develop our thinking and vocabulary skills.
Maths activities will focus on place value and building number sense.
As computer technicians, we will learn how to code a scratch project so that it includes speech and a conversation between two sprites.
Alongside carefully planned adult-led teaching, children will have access to a range of enhancements and continuous provision opportunities throughout the day. Our enhancements are carefully linked to current topics, class texts and curriculum learning. They provide opportunities for children to revisit, explore and apply knowledge through practical, hands-on experiences. Through these activities, children develop communication, vocabulary, attention, problem-solving, independence and social skills while deepening their understanding of the topics being studied.
Tapestry
Each week we will post a weekly round-up onto Tapestry so you can learn about what activities the children have been engaging in as well as more personalised observations. We will also share any information regarding resources or clothing that may be needed, as well as any additional weekly activities that are upcoming, so please look out for weekly correspondence.
