In RWI we use pictures to support understanding and recall of sounds. In set 1 we use a visual that can be used to support writing the grapheme (written sound) for example "P" for "Pirate", with the letter to look like a pirate. We have handwriting phrases to support letter formation. Letters are modelled 'In the air' and on the board. During Read Write Inc children are taught letter formation and correct seating positions to support good posture for writing, all writing is at table places and in a lined book.
