Our topic during the Autumn Term is

Who Did It?


Our stunning start...

The children came into school on Monday morning to find a crime scene. Someone had made a mess in the KS1 corridor and stolen Miss Unsworth's lunch box. Clues were left on the scene and the children examined clues, asked questions, identified suspects and finally exposed the culprit… Mrs Peacock!

In class we are reading What the Ladybird Heard by Julia Donaldson. We are using this text to write lists, signs and captions.


We are also learning how to write simple sentences independently that start with a capital letter, end with a full stop and have finger spaces between words.


We have made ladybird hats and become the ladybird in order to make a prediction about what the ladybird could have heard.


Then we became the farm animals and made our own cunning plans to stop the robbers!


In Maths we will be consolidating our counting skills.


We aim to be confident counting forwards and backwards in 1s from any given number to 20. We will be learning how to match objects to numeral counting carefully with one to one correspondence.


We will be using a number line to order and sequence numbers, finding one more or one less than any given number to 30 and beginning simple addition and subtraction.


Robert Peel will be our famous historical figure this term. We will be investigating police artefacts, classifying into past and present, finding out about Robert Peel's achievements and the impact he has had on current day life.

This will culminate in a visit from the local community police officers.



We will be looking at the work of Judith Ann Braun, the famous New York artist. We will investigate the mediums and techniques she used and then create a piece of art in her style.



The children will be using the internet to receive and send an email. The children will learn about the importance of staying safe on-line.



We will be listening to the Pink Panther music theme and identifying musical instruments we can hear. We will then create a score to reflect the dynamics of the music.



This half term will are learning about our bodies! We will learn the names of our body parts and investigate our senses before carrying out an investigation.
