Summer 2 - The Ancient Egyptians

The Ancient Greeks


As Mathematicians we will:

- Learn how to divide larger numbers using long division

- Understand and find factors, multiples and primes

- Find square and cube numbers

- Learn the order in which calculations should be completed

- Recognise equivalent fractions and simplify

- Switch between mixed number and improper fractions

- Compare and order fractions

- Add and subtract fractions

- Multiply fractions by whole numbers and by other fractions

- Divide fractions by whole numbers and by other fractions

- Find a fraction of an amount

- Find an amount from a fraction


As Writers we will:

- Recognise the features of a non-chronological report

- Research and takes notes about an aspect of Ancient Greek life

- Write our own non-chronological report about the Ancient Greeks

- Edit and improve the report we have written

- Read and learn several Ancient Greek Myths and Legends

- Plan to re-write one of these ancient tales for ourselves

- Write our own Ancient Greek Myth or Legend

- Edit and improve the tale we have written


As Readers we will:

- Learn a range of new vocabulary found in the books we are reading

- Predict what we think will happen next in texts

- Discuss the texts we are reading together as a class

- Summarise what we have read

- Answer inference questions about the text we are reading

- Discuss our favourite characters, events or settings within a story

- Relate characters to ourselves or those seen in other books

- Write book reviews about the texts we have covered


As Scientists we will:

- Recognise that some mechanisms including levers, pulleys and gears allow a smaller force to have a bigger effect

- Identify the effects of air resistance, water resistance and friction, that act between moving surfaces

- Learn about a famous Ancient Greek scientist and inventor Archimedes

- Explore different falling objects and how we can slow these down

- Carry out fair tests to determine which designs are most effective

- Explore water resistance through making and testing different shaped boats


As Historians we will:

- Identify where and when the Ancient Greek era began and ended

- Use primary and secondary sources to research what everyday life was like during Ancient Greek times

- Understand the different types of governance present in Ancient Greece

- Compare and contrast the city states of Athens and Sparta

- Recognise the role of religion in Ancient Greece

- Be aware of the impact that the Ancient Greeks had on life today



As Geographers we will:

- Revise the seven continents of the world

- Use an atlas to find Greece and recognise the continent it belongs to

- Use maps to describe where Greece is in the world and explain what surrounds it

- Learn what climate means and understand what effects climate

- Understand the climate of Greece and explain how this effects the weather


As Artists we will:

- Research examples of Ancient Greek pottery and understand why they are important pieces of evidence

- Develop and refine our skills in using clay

- Plan our own sculpture through accurately making sketched models

- Make, model and construct from observation

- Produce intricate patterns and textures in malleable media

- Evaluate our artwork against its intended outcome


As Musicians we will:

- Describe, compare and evaluate music using musical vocabulary

- Explain why we think music is successful or unsuccessful

- Analyse features within different pieces of music

- Contrast the work of a famous composer and explain their preferences

- Listen with attention to detail and recall sounds with increasing aural memory

- Appreciate and understand a wide range of music from different traditions


As Computer Technicians we will:

- Design, write and debug programs to accomplish specific goals

- Use sequence, selection and repetition in my programs

- Explain how some of my algorithms work

- Use search technologies effectively

- Select, use and combine a variety of technology
