For Summer 2, our new topic is 'Rise of the Robots'. We will be looking into lots of amazing new facts linked to Science, D.T, I.C.T, History and much more!
In science we will be identifying common appliances that run on electricity. We will be looking at how we use these at home and we use electricity for. We will also be constructing simple electrical circuits, identifying and naming its basic parts, including cells, wires, bulbs, switches and buzzers. We will investigate whether or not a lamp will light in a simple series circuit, based on whether or not the lamp is part of a complete loop with a battery. We will also be learning that a switch opens and closes a circuit and associate this with whether or not a lamp lights in a simple series circuit
In History this half term we will be learning why the Industrial Revolution was important to Britain, exploring how the Industrial Revolution changed the landscape and economy of Britain , recognising the significance of cotton spinning on the North West of England and understanding the significance of steam trains during the Industrial Revolution
In ICT we will be creating a toy made from Lego that will run using a computer software (Lego WeDo) using sequences, selection, and repetition in LEGO WeDo to create a set of inputs on our 'dancing birds'. We will make sure we are using technology safely, respectfully and responsibly; recognising acceptable/unacceptable behaviour; identifying a range of ways to report concerns about content and contact.
As design technologists we will be identifying the different features of a torch, designing and making different types of switches, linked to our knowledge from science and designing an object to meet the design brief (to make an object to help the Iron Man see in the dark) using a circuit.
As well as all of this, we shall also be doing some fantastic work within R.E, French, Music and PSHE!
This term we will be learning Street Dance with Becky. We will practising dancing and pretending we are robots!
In Literacy we are going to be focusing on writing instructions!
In Maths we are going to be revising many aspects of the Year 3 curriculum, including the 4 operations, mass and capacity and shapes!
