Summer 2 - Rise of the Robots

RISE OF THE ROBOTS

For Summer 2, our new topic is 'Rise of the Robots'. We will be looking into lots of amazing new facts linked to Science, D.T,  I.C.T, History and much more!

We will be making some amazing discoveries within our different subjects. Take a look at the key objectives we shall be covering...

As scientists we shall be:

  • identifying common appliances that run on electricity
  • constructing simple electrical circuits, identifying and naming its basic parts, including cells, wires, bulbs, switches and buzzers
  • identifying whether or not a lamp will light in a simple series circuit, based on whether or not the lamp is part of a complete loop with a battery
  • recognising that a switch opens and closes a circuit and associate this with whether or not a lamp lights in a simple series circuit
  • recognising some common conductors and insulators

As historians we shall be:

  • understanding why the Industrial Revolution was important to Britain.

  • exploring how the Industrial Revolution changed the landscape and economy of Britain

  • recognising the significance of cotton spinning on the North West of England.

  • understanding the significance of steam trains during the Industrial Revolution

As I.C.T technicians we shall be:

  • creating a toy made from Lego that will run using a computer software (Lego WeDo)
  • using sequences, selection, and repetition in LEGO WeDo to create a set of inputs on our 'dancing birds'
  • using technology safely, respectfully and responsibly; recognising acceptable/unacceptable behaviour; identifying a range of ways to report concerns about content and contact

As design technologists we shall be:

  • identifying the different features of a torch
  • designing and making different types of switches, linked to our knowledge from science
  • designing an object to meet the design brief (to make an object to help the Iron Man see in the dark) using a circuit

As well as all of this, we shall also be undertaking fantastic work within R.E, French, Music and PSHE!

In LITERACY we are going to be focusing on two main writing genres - Fantasy Stories and Choral Poetry !

In MATHS we are going to be revising many aspects of the Year 4 curriculum, including the 4 operations, fractions and shapes !

We have had such a busy week! We have making Mars rovers, visiting Wellington for a French afternoon and AGSB for a Science afternoon!

Stunning Start - Creating our own robots!

For Summer 2 we shall also be continuing with our mile runs every week - so ensure children have good running shoes in school.

Swimming is still on every Tuesday afternoon so make sure full swimming kits are in (costumes/ trunks/ towel/ swimming cap)
