Where Does Food Come From?


For Summer 1, our new topic we will be studying is .... Where Does Food Come From?! We will be looking into lots of amazing new facts linked to Geography, D.T, Science. Music and much more! 


We will be making some amazing discoveries within our different subjects. Take a look at the key objectives we shall be covering...


As geographers we shall be:

  • understanding that food comes from different climates around the world

  • exploring how a local food, Timperley Early Rhubarb, has been produced over the years.

  • understanding and describing the trade links that enable food from around the world to be sold in the United Kingdom.

  • identifying and differentiating breads from around the world


As scientists we shall be:

  • identifying that animals, including humans, need the right types and amount of nutrition, and that they cannot make their own food; they get nutrition from what they eat

  • identifying that humans and some other animals have skeletons and muscles for support, protection and movement

  • identifying the different types of teeth in humans and their simple functions


As musicians we shall be: 

  • exploring different jingles and understand why they have been created

  • exploring lyrics of a popular jingle

  • creating our own jingles to advertise a company

  • evaluating their jingle with increasing complexity


In PSHE we shall be:

  • understanding the groups involved in banana production and the roles of each part
  • understanding that the money a banana (or other product) costs is split between all of the people involved in trading the product.
  • exploring some of the reasons that it is not split fairly.
  • exploring the work that Fairtrade do and why


Not only this, but within D.T. we shall be designing and baking our own loaves of bread!



In LITERACY we are going to be focusing on two main writing genres - Persuasive Letters and writing Instructions ! 


In MATHS we are going to be learning all about Money ! 

Stunning Start - Trying breads from around the world!

For Summer 1 we have Musical Theatre with Becky - this will be every Monday


We will also be playing Cricket, taught by Mr Busby - this will be every Friday, so make sure that your P.E. kit is in! 


We shall also be continuing with our mile runs every week - so ensure children have good running shoes in school.


Swimming is still on every Tuesday afternoon so their full swimming kit is required (costumes/ trunks/ towel/ swimming cap)
