Reception Hyland

Welcome to Reception SH

Autumn term 1

 

Welcome to Reception SH. Your teacher this year is Miss Hyland and your teaching assistant is Mrs Crompton.

 

Welcome to our class page! Thank you for visiting us. We firstly want to tell you that we are so proud of how well the children are settling into Reception life. They have been very busy learning the new routines of our class and have had so much fun exploring all of the learning areas in the classroom with their friends. This half term we will be very busy getting to know your wonderful children. We will be carrying out baseline assessments of the children's learning. These assessments will give us lots of information which will support delivering an exciting curriculum at the correct level and pace. 

 

This half term we will be exploring the big question 'is everybody's home the same?'. We will be going on a walk to explore the homes in our local area on Thursday 10th October. 

 

Phonics

At our school, we deliver phonics sessions using the Read, Write, Inc synthetic phonics scheme. The children are going to begin these phonics sessions during the middle of Autumn 1 term. We will start by learning Phase 2. For more information please visit our phonics page, which can be found under the 'curriculum' page. 

 

Literacy

We always base our literacy learning around our topic question. This will give the children lots of opportunities to develop their literacy skills through exciting and creative activities. We will be completing a 2 week writing task every half term, enabling the children to develop their writing skills. 

 

Numeracy

We use the White Rose maths scheme to support our planning of numeracy sessions. The children will begin these focused sessions once we have carried out their numeracy baselines.
