At Broomwood Primary School we highly value the role parents and carers play in their children's education. In the Early Years Foundation Stage we work closely with parents to develop a deeper understanding of your child and how we can support them best when they are in our setting.
Play and stay sessions
Each term we host a play and stay session where you are welcome to come into class and engage in exciting activities alongside your child. Your children love nothing more than to show you want they have been learning and show you their learning environment. These sessions are open to all members of the family and we will keep you informed through letters and text messages when they occur.
Home learning challenges
When your child is a focus child they will have a fun activity to take home linked to their current topic. It might be a craft activity, a photograph challenge or a competition. These challenges present you with an opportunity to get involved with your child's learning.
Focus child approach
Across Early Years we use a focus child approach to gather detailed observations of a set group of children and plan their next steps. Your child will be a focus child once every half-term. It is during this time that we will encourage you to contribute evidence towards your child's learning by sharing their achievements at home through the 'leaps of learning' approach. We will let you know when it is your child's focus week and how we would like to you to get involved.
Leaps of learning
Young children are always making leaps of progress and at Broomwood Primary School we celebrate all achievements big and small! However, we cannot see everything that your child can do and some leaps of learning will only occur at home. For example when your child sets the table for dinner, helps look after their sibling or goes on a day out to the farm. This is where we want you to share these wonderful achievements. We send out regular leaps of learning slips for you to fill in and encourage you to email photographs to firstname.lastname@example.org
