School Lunches
*FOR INFORMATION - School lunches will be increasing from Sept 2026 - £15.00 per week (£3.00 a day)*
Children in KS2 (Year 3,4,5,6) and Nursery (if full time) are required to pay for lunches. School lunches should be paid for each Monday in advance - £15.00 per week. Multiple weeks can be paid but the money again needs to be paid in advance.
Any outstanding balances over £30.00 will chased up by the office staff. If you fail to make any payments they will be sent to a debt collection agency for collection unless we have made alternative arrangements.
All school lunches must be paid using our online payment system ParentPay. If you require any help using Parent Pay, please call the school office.
Under the government initiative 'Universal Free School Meals' - ALL children in Reception and KS1 are entitled to free school meals.
Free School Meal Changes from 1st September 2026
What is changing?
From September 2026 the Department for Education is expanding Free School Meals to all children whose households receive Universal Credit.
- Expanded Eligibility: From September all children from households receiving Universal Credit will be eligible for free school meals, regardless of household earnings.
- End of Transitional Protections: The automatic protections that previously allowed families to keep their free school meals when their income increased have ended.
How this affects your child:
Depending on your household earnings, your eligibility will fall into one of two categories:
- Targeted FSM: If your household earns <£7400 annually (excluding benefits) your child receives free school meals, and the school receives extra "Pupil Premium" funding to support their education.
- Expanded FSM: If your household earns above £7400 annually but you receive Universal Credit, your child will receive free school meals only.
- Note: All children in Reception, Year 1, and Year 2 will continue to automatically receive free school meals under the Universal Infant scheme.
How to apply via Trafford Council
Even if you think your household income has changed, we strongly encourage all families on Universal Credit to apply. Trafford Council uses a secure online system that links to the national database to give you an instant decision.

- Information Needed: You will need your National Insurance number (or National Asylum Support Service number) and your date of birth.

If your application is successful, the council will notify us automatically, and your child’s school meals will be updated. We ask that you apply as soon as possible, before the start of the academic year in September so that we can update records accordingly. Please note if you apply now and your child/ren fall into the Targeted FSM category the changes will be made immediately. If they fall into the Expanded category this will be updated from 1st September 2026
School Lunch Menu
Please find below a list of the school lunches* we provide at Broomwood Primary School. We are currently working on a three week menu rotation.

We would like to remind parents that we require one weeks notice if your child wishes to change from school lunches to packed lunches or vice versa. Even if your child has free school meals, we still require notice to ensure correct quantity of food is ordered by kitchen each week.
Packed lunches - All food brought from home must be packed in a sealed container and labelled with your child’s name. No hot fluids or glass bottles are allowed in school. In accordance with our Healthy School Initiative packed lunches should not contain chocolate, cakes, biscuits or fizzy drinks.
School Milk and Fruit
Every child is offered FREE milk each day in school. For Preschool, Nursery and Reception children this is available in the classroom setting. In KS1 and KS2 (Year 1,2,3,4,5,6) this is available to children at lunchtime. Please be aware this is available as an option at lunchtime, the children are able to choose if they want to take it or not.
Children in Years Reception, 1 and 2 have a piece of fruit or vegetable free each afternoon as part of the Government’s Fruit Scheme.
