Literacy

Listen to the story of the Tin Forest, it is a folk tale. Do you know what a folk tale is? Try and find out today. After you have listened to the story, I would like you to think of five questions you would ask the old man. Draw the old man and write these questions around him. Now, using what you know about the man write about his personality and his feelings. You should use evidence from the story in your answer. Use the sheet provided to help you with ideas for your writing.

The Tin Forest by Helen Ward & Wayne Anderson

My second picture book and a request from both Year 3 and Year 6 who have both studied it at various times.

Maths

Over the next two weeks, we are going to be exploring different types of charts and how to handle data as part of our new statistics unit.

Today, read the presentation ‘Types of charts’. How many did you recognise? Which are new? Why is data presented in different ways?

Then, have a go at reading and interpreting the scaled bar charts activity sheets.

Guided Reading

Read the first text in the Reading Booklet, Extreme Weather, on pages 3-5.

Note down any unfamiliar words while you read.

After you have read the text, use a dictionary, the internet (www.dictionary.com) or ask an adult to help you to understand the word in the context of the sentence.

Can you summarise what the text was about?
