Fire Fire!
Our new topic for Autumn Term 2 is Fire Fire! Get your detective hats on and your magnifying glasses at the ready to explore and investigate this fascinating topic!
As Mathematicians we are learning to:
Recognise addition and subtraction symbols
Understand how to recognise a whole number and its parts
Recognise and part whole models for addition and subtraction
Find number bonds to 10
To add together and to add more
Subtract by crossing out, breaking apart and counting back.
To compare addition and subtraction statements
Our texts this term are the Gunpowder Plot and Kipper's Toybox.
As Readers we will be:
- Learning set 3 sounds recognising the individual sound and spotting them within words
- Using our phonics to segment and blend sounds until reading becomes fluent
- Continuing to learn the 100 high frequency words for Year 1.
- Reading books aloud, making predictions and discussing the story and characters.
As Writers we will be:
- Practising the correct formation of upper and lower case letters
- Spelling by sounding out using our phonics
- Starting our sentences with a capital letter and ending with a full stop
- Using finger spaces
- Creating our own sentences using say it, count it, write it, read it and linking to our success criteria.
- Reading our writing aloud to check it makes sense
As Scientists we will be:
- Identifying the suitability of materials for a specific use
- Observing closely using simple equipment
- Using observations to suggest answers to questions
- Finding out how the shape of some solid objects can be changed by squashing, twisting, bending and stretching
- Performing simple tests
As Geographers we will be:
- Locating and naming the 4 countries of Great Britain and their capital cities
- Locating and naming the surrounding seas
- Locating London on a map and identifying a few landmarks
As Historians we will be:
- Asking and answering questions about the past using sources
- Using role play to understand the past
- Finding out about the past in different ways
- Comparing sources of evidence
- Recognising that our lives today are different from the lives of people in the past
As Computer Technicians we will be:
- Learning and practising our typing skills on a keyboard
- Finding out how to create cards using a laptop
- Using the application paint to create a digital picture
As learners of Religious Education we are continuing to find out more about the big question:
Who is a Christian and what do they believe? This will include finding out:
- What is the Christmas story and why is it important to Christians?
- How is Christmas celebrated?
- How do I celebrate?
In PSHE we will be learning about our rights and responsibilities in the wider world.
We will be looking to understand and answer the big questions:
What are our rights and responsibilities as a member of our class.
How our actions can improve or harm our local, natural and built environment.
Where does money comes from? How we can use money for different purposes, including spending and saving.
As Artists we will be:
- Looking at a variety of textiles and patchwork quilts
- Exploring methods of joining materials, including stitching
- Designing and making our own house themed textile for a class patchwork quilt
