Fire Fire!

 

Our new topic for Autumn Term 2 is Fire Fire!  Get your detective hats on and your magnifying glasses at the ready to explore and investigate this fascinating topic!

 

As Mathematicians we will be:

  • Practising our addition and subtraction bonds to 10, 20 and 100
  • Adding and subtracting ones 
  • Adding and subtracting tens
  • Adding and subtracting 1 and 2 digit numbers
  • Adding and subtracting two 2-digit numbers crossing ten
  • Add three 1-digit numbers
  • Recognising coins and notes
  • Counting money in notes and coins
  • Comparing money, finding totals and finding the difference
  • Finding change and solving money problems

 

As Readers we will be:

  • Using our phonics to segment and blend sounds until reading becomes fluent
  • Reading words of 2 or more syllables
  • Reading common exception words
  • Reading books aloud

 

As Writers we will be:

  • Practising the correct formation of upper and lower case letters
  • Spelling by sounding out using our phonics
  • Starting our sentences with a capital letter and ending with a punctuation mark
  • Using finger spaces
  • Creating our own sentences using say it, count it, write it, read it
  • Using conjunctions (and, because) to add extra information in our sentences
  • Planning, composing and writing recounts of real events using time words to sequence events
  • Using adjectives to describe our own feelings during our recount
  • Reading our writing aloud to check it makes sense

 

As Scientists we will be:

  • Identifying the suitability of materials for a specific use
  • Observing closely using simple equipment
  • Using observations to suggest answers to questions
  • Finding out how the shape of some solid objects can be changed by squashing, twisting, bending and stretching
  • Performing simple tests

 

As Geographers we will be:

  • Locating and naming the 4 countries of Great Britain and their capital cities
  • Locating and naming the surrounding seas
  • Locating London on a map and identifying a few landmarks

 

As Historians we will be:

  • Asking and answering questions about the past using sources
  • Using role play to understand the past
  • Finding out about the past in different ways
  • Comparing sources of evidence
  • Recognising that our lives today are different from the lives of people in the past

 

As Computer Technicians we will be:

  • Practising typing skills
  • Searching for images using the internet
  • Altering images using the paint programme
  • Inserting our chosen image into a document

 

As learners of Religious Education we will be exploring these questions:

  • Who is a Christian and what do they believe?
  • What do Christians learn about God from the Bible?

 

 

As Artists we will be:

  • Looking at a variety of textiles and patchwork quilts
  • Exploring methods of joining materials, including stitching
  • Designing and making our own house themed textile for a class patchwork quilt
