Stone Age to Celts!


Our new topic for this half term is Stone Age to Iron Age. Get your spears, flint  and animal skins ready as we journey through the Stone Age to the Bronze Age then Iron Age. We will immerse ourselves in this topic through different areas of the curriculum so read on to see what Year 4 will be learning this half term.


As Writers we will be:

Learning a range of spelling strategies and rules for suffixes (-sion -tion -ssion -ation -cian)
Using inverted commas
Using apostrophes for contractions
Choosing appropriate fronted adverbials with commas
Using adjectives and other descriptive methods to make our writing interesting
Editing our writing
Writing a traditional story based on Stone Age boy
Writing a non - chronological report about the Stone Age


As Readers we will be:

Reading Ug by Raymond Briggs
Exploring new vocabulary, plots and characters
Discussing author intent
Making inferences about characters’ thoughts, feelings and intentions


As Mathematicians we will be:

Rounding numbers to the nearest 10 and 100 and 1000
Counting in 1000’s
Representing numbers to 10,000
Partitioning numbers
Placing numbers up to 10,000 on a number line
Finding 1000 more and less
Ordering and comparing numbers
Counting in 25’s


As Scientists we will be:

Comparing the nutritional value of different foods.
Identifying what we need to keep our bodies healthy.
Comparing the nutritional content of the food which was available in the Stone Age to now.
Designing an investigation to explore ways in which we can make food more appealing.
Construct and interpret a variety of food chains, identifying producers, predators and prey


As Musicians we will be:

Understanding the origin of Celtic music and reflect on the style.
Creating a composition in the style of Celtic music.
Performing and evaluate my group composition.


As Spanish speakers we will be:

Recapping our learning from last year
Counting to 20 in Spanish
Asking others their age and responding

As Historians we will be:
