Our Brilliant Bodies

Summer 2

This half term we will be learning all about our amazingly BRILLIANT BODIES! The topic is predominantly science based and we will be covering

  • Our skeleton and it's different functions
  • How our muscles enable us to move
  • Finding out how nutrients are absorbed (and what poo is...) by creating our own class digestive system
  • Looking at our own teeth and comparing them to other mammals of the world
  • Making sure we know how to be hygienic and keeping our bodies clean and healthy so that we live a long, happy life.

We are going to be linking our anatomy and physiology knowledge with our creative, artistic side and sculpting a piece of art in the style of HENRY MOORE. We had a great time at YORKSHIRE SCULPTURE park last week and the children loved looking at the impressive forms from different perspectives. I highly recommend the park for a summer activity for you and your family.

In ICT, we are going to be putting our new GDPR knowledge to good use and collecting data as part of surveys.

We also have some themed weeks this term

  • A new local history/geography week
  • PE week
  • Enterprise week

Local history/geography week

We are going to be developing our history and geography skills by investigating and exploring our local area. We are going to be using digimaps to develop our mapping skills of how the land use has changed, and using primary and secondary sources to prove our predictions.

There is also going to be a GREAT BRITISH TEA PARTY on Friday 6th July in honor of our own diverse and democratic country.

PE Week

This is going to be an opportunity to physically hard and boost our fitness levels! Expect your child to be begging to go to bed at 5 after we complete circuits workouts, go on amazing trips, run a mile a day and stretch it out with some yoga. Make sure you child brings plenty of water to school and is fed with a hearty breakfast! We also have boxing all half term on TUESDAY afternoons.

Enterprise Week

This is where our business skills are sharpened as each class competes to raise the most money for the school by designing, developing, making and selling a product. The fair will be on Friday 20th July, so start saving your pennies now and come ready to spend!

PE

The Rainforest

This half term, summer 1, we are going to be learning about rainforests all over the world! We will be linking them to different biomes and climates, as well as looking at classification and adaptations from the planet most densely-populated areas (with animals that is!) of the globe. After learning about this habit- a place where most of the Earth's oxygen comes from- we will be looking at the global affect of deforestation.

Throughout the topic, we will keep you updated on our learning on this blog and we will keep posting updates on twitter!

This half term, we also have Becky on a Monday- Musical Theatre (The Jungle Book)- and Wednesday- Street Dance (Zumba inspired!)

Part of the children's homework this half term is to complete a project. It can be presented in any way but it must reflect the child's learning of one rainforest animal. The children will be asked to present them during the last week before Whit.

Thanks

Miss Hawkins

The children's history skills in Spring 1 have been AMAZING and they have learnt so much. they seem to really be engaging with this topic.

Lights, Camera, Action!

Our topic for Autumn 2 is centered around light. We are going to be investigating what light is, how we see light and what the absence of light is (any guesses..?). Also, we will be looking at the size of shadows and what changes it.

In ICT, we are going to making our own short film by filming it in groups and even editing it using an Apple Mac. We will also be filming our anti-bullying film so we will get lots of practice at being superstars before we complete our own.

In art, we will become inspired by the work of Andy Warhol. We will be creating our repeated patterns by using lino-printing which is something that we haven'd done before in year 3!

In Geography, we are going to be studying the United Kingdom and looking at the different regions- where would be perfect for filming different movies?

We are also  lucky enough to be going to the cinema on Monday 11th December to see Paddington bear and learning about what is in the projector room.

This half term, we also have BOXING on a TUESDAY afternoon and GYMNASTICS on a WEDNESDAY afternoon. Don't forget your correct PE kit!

We have also started rehearsing our contributions to the Carol Service at the church at Christmas; it's going to come around fast this year!

Year 3

Welcome to our class page! We will be putting a lot of things on here throughout the year so please keep visiting it. There will be lots of videos and photos of our learning as well as information about our topic.

Stone Age to Celts!

For Autumn 1, we are going to be learning about the period of time in Britain from the Stone Age to the Celts. We are studying what life was like for our ancestors and how we have changed in humans. We are going to be looking into how the discovery of metal helped us to develop new technologies. We are also going to be designing and building our own shelters and dancing to our own compositions of Celtic music!

In Science we are going to be learning all about our digestive system and the functions of our teeth.

In RE, we are going to be learning about different symbols for different faiths and religions.
