Circle of Life
We will be finding out lots about this topic in our afternoon sessions, but it will also link to our Literacy and Numeracy.
Literacy - We will be interrogating and retelling the story of The King of the Tiny Things. We will be finding out about this magical creature and writing adventure stories about him.
Our grammar focus will continue to be capital letters and full stops but we will also look at using connectives to extend and improve our sentences. We will also be looking it apostrophes to show possession and for omission. Our spelling focus will be words with silent letters, such as knot and gnaw.
Numeracy - Addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.
Science - We will learn how to understand if things are alive or dead, the life cycles of humans and animals, animal groups (carnivores, herbivores and omnivores), what humans need to survive and food chains.
History - Local history.
Geography - Learning the names of the British Isles, locating the continents and the equator. Finding out how life in a different country is similar and different to here and why the physical and / or human features of a country may affect which animals choose to live there.
Computing - We will be using the IPADS to create 'Talking books' and using PowerPoint to create a slide show.
DT - We will be designing and making sandwiches with different foods from around the world. We will learn how to be hygienic when preparing food.
Music - We will be listening to and composing music to show the movement of different animals in the style of the 'Carnival of the Animals' by Camille Saint-Saens
Art - We will be studying the artwork of Andy Goldsworthy. We will be learning about the artists work and recreating our own art in his style.
PE - Street dance - We will be preparing for our street dance competition.
As part of our topic we will be visiting Chester Zoo. A letter will go out soon but we will have a fantastic day looking and learning about animals from around the world.
Last term we had One Goal sessions. We learnt how to be a good friend and how to work with others.

We had a great day exploring toys from now and the past.

Welcome to Year 2
Your class teacher this year is Miss Lamb and your teaching assistants are Mrs Seatree, Miss Mealor and Mrs Hargreaves.
We hope you have had a wonderful summer holiday and are ready to work hard in Year 2.
TOYS and Changes in Living Memory
Toys is our new topic and we will be learning about these in our topic sessions. We have made links in our literacy and numeracy.
Literacy - Interrogating and retelling the story of Dogger. Our grammar focus will be capital letters and full stops. Our spelling focus will be double letters.
Numeracy - Place value, ordering numbers, comparing numbers, addition and subtraction.
History - How toys have changed over time (especially dolls and teddies).
Geography - Learning the names of the countries, continents and parts of the UK. Comparing different countries where there is a 'Legoland'.
Computing - Programming Bee bots to move around a 'Toy story' maze.
DT - Mechanisms and using levers and hinges to make toys.
Music - Music to accompany the film 'Toy Story'.
French - Basic greetings and the names of different toys.
PSHE - Class rules, friendships and goals for the future.
PE - Street dance
RE - Festivals and celebrations.
Musical theatre - Pinnocchio and 'When you wish upon a star'
We had a fantastic week! We visited Aerial Extreme at Knowsley Safari Park. We climbed an assault course then jumped off a 50ft drop! Miss Lamb was very proud of you all.
Our trip to Llandudno
We had a fantastic day in Llandudno. We watched Punch and Judy, went on a train ride to the beach, played on the beach and found lots of shells and crabs, walked along the pier and had a delicious ice cream.

We had a visit this week from the Poetry Postman. We worked with him to write our own poem in the style of "The News" by Michael Rosen.
Summer Term - THE SEASIDE
This term we will be learning about The Seaside.
Literacy - This term we will be reading a story called Squirrel. We will be writing stories and recounts.
Numeracy - This term we will working on addition, subtraction, adding amounts of money, measures and patterns and sequences. We will be recapping topics as part of our revision.
History - We will be learning about the seaside in the past and present. What was the seaside like in the past? Did you Grandparents go to the seaside? What was the same? What was different?
Geography - Comparing an urban area with a seaside area. We will also be developing mapping skills.
DT - We will design and make a Punch or Judy puppet for our own puppet show.
French - We will be learning numbers, greetings and words for the seaside.
Science - We will be photographers.
PSHE - Managing risks and keeping safe.
Computing - We are photographers
RE - Special Books
Art - Studying LS Lowry and creating our own watercolour seaside picture.
PE - This term we will be practicing our street dance for our competition in May. Please make sure you have you PE kits in school all week.
World Book Day - We all looked fantastic! Can you identify which book characters we dressed up as?
Spring 2 - SUPERHEROES
This term we will be learning about Superheroes. Who is your favourite superhero? Why?
Literacy - This term we will be reading a non - fiction book about Florence Nightingale. Who was she? Why do you think she was a Superhero? We will be writing recounts of her time in hospitals and a diary entry about her life and work.
Numeracy - This term we will working on addition of multiples of 10, multiplication, division, adding amounts of money, interpreting data from graphs and time. Try and practice telling the time with an adult.
Music - This term we will be learning to the play the ukulele. Please remember to bring your instrument every week on a Tuesday. We will be performing for adults on the 21st March and we would love to see you there.
History - Understanding that not all superheroes are from comic books, but some are real life person who have had a massive impact on peoples lives. Finding out more about these people, e.g. Florence Nightingale, Grace Darling, Tim Berners Lee, etc.
DT - We will design and make a vehicle for a superhero.
French - We will be learning numbers, greetings and words for transport.
Science - We will be growing our own beanstalks and investigating what we think plants need to grow.
Computing - Evaluating computer games and learning how to use Scratch.
RE - What is a leader? We will be finding out about leaders in our life and religion.
PE - This term we will be practicing our street dance for our competition in May. We will have Mr Busby on a Friday for football skills. Please remember to have your full PE kit.
SCIENCE - We grew our own beanstalks and monitored how they grew. What do plants need to survive?
DT - We investigated different mechanisms and tested them for our Superhero vehicles.
MUSIC - We have enjoyed singing and playing the Ukulele
