This half term, we will be exploring themes linked with our new topic, Once Upon A Time.
We will be learning all about the first castles from the 9th and 10th Centuries in our History lessons, comparing castles around the world and learning about significant events from the Middle Ages and their impact.
In ICT, we will be using the green screen! We will write our own play scripts of traditional tales with a twist and will adopt filmmaking duties to direct, act, film and edit our plays to include a background using editing software.
In Art, we will be developing our sketching skills, ultimately creating our own characters in the style of Disney.
We are also looking forward to visiting Beeston Castle on Monday 22nd May to bring our learning in this topic to life.
Passion for Plants
This half term, our topic is Plants! We have had a fantastic start to our topic already, we have planted sunflowers, looked at parts of the plants and we have also been sketching flowers. We are excited to see our plants grow over this half term!
In Science this half term, we will be looking at how plants grow, the life cycle of flowering plants and different types of plants found in our local area and around the world.
In Art, we will be looking at textiles and practicing our sewing skills. All our Art work this half term will be inspired by Georgia O'keeffe.
In Geography, we will be looking at Broomwood through time and how the land and homes have changed. We will also be completing some field work!
For our Stunning Start, we planted 31 sunflowers seeds, 6 different types tomato seed, basil, coriander, and chives.

Spring 1: Sounds Amazing
This half term we will be learning all about sound!
We will be exploring aspects of sound and noise across the curriculum. In Science we will investigate how sound waves travel; in Music we will discover how music has changed over the 20th Century to reflect the world; we will find out about advancements in sound recording over the last 100 years in History, comparing leisure and entertainment activities to before sound could be recorded with pictures; and in PE we will be learning about sound and movement through dance.
In DT we will be baking bread and in PSHE we will be learning covering 'It's ok to tell' emphasising the importance of not keeping secrets.
Our Stunning Start will be held on Friday 13th January when Travelling by Tuba come into school!
Our topic for Autumn 2 is Volcanoes and Earthquakes
During Autumn 2, our topic is Volcanoes and Earthquakes and we are hooked on finding out fascinating facts about Mother Nature’s awesome energies. We are finding it really interesting already. For our stunning start, Miss Fox led us on a Google Expedition to four volcanoes across the globe: Erta Ale (Ethiopia), Mount Bromo (Java, Indonesia), Dallol (Ethiopia) and Kīlauea Volcano (Hawaii).
We had lots of fun creating our own volcano by layering different coloured salt dough onto an empty water bottle, to represent the layers of lava and ash which forms the shape of the volcano. We then made the volcano erupt by adding bicarbonate of soda to the vinegar in the 'magma chamber' (bottle).
ROCKS: In Science, we will become geologists and investigate the world of rocks. Through this unit, we will identify, compare and describe different kinds of rocks (metamorphic, sedimentary and igneous) and we will also describe how fossils are formed. We will have a go at making our own rocks from CHOCOLATE!!!
Our topic for Autumn 1 is Buried Treasure: The Vikings.
We will be exploring where the Vikings fit in History, their impact on Britain and their legends.
In Science, we are exploring solids, liquids and gases in States of Matter, which includes evaporation, condensation and the water cycle.
We will be learning about 2D levers and mechanisms in Design Technology and designing an educational toy to teach younger children about the Vikings.
