Sounds Amazing!


In topic this half term, we will be learning all about Sound!


In Geography, we are looking at different music genres and music from around the world. We will also look at where the Beatles are from and how they became so popular.


In History, we are looking at how and when the Beatles got famous and making comparisons to other artists of the same era. We will also be looking at what was happening in Liverpool at the time of the Beatles and the political and social changes that took place.


In Science, we are learning about how sound is made, how sound travels and how pitch and volume can change.


In Art, Year 3 are designing and making their own album covers in the style of the Beatles using different types of pencils for sketching and shading.


We are also learning how to count in French and commands in French.


In PE we will be continuing with our running, two times a week. We will also be taking part in Street Dance with the dance teacher on a Friday morning. We hope to perform our dances to you by the end of the term!


Please make sure PE kit is in school every day as the running can change, depending on weather.

In topic in Autumn 2, we will be learning all about volcanoes!



Our writing focus this half term will be on explanation texts and newspaper reports. We will be making cross curricular links to Volcanoes and reading a non-fiction text titled Volcanoes -Eye Wonder and Escape from Pompeii by Christins Balit. Within Literacy we will be practising the use of correct punctuation, spelling and grammar that is expected for Year 3/4.



This half term, we will be learning about Multiplication and Division.

This will include lots of different applications of times tables -please ensure that your child practises their times tables regularly at home.

In topic this half term, we will be learning all about Volcanoes! In Geography, we are learning all about where volcanoes have formed in the world and how volcanoes form. In Science, we are learning about the states of matter, solids, liquids and gases. In Art, Year 3 will be researching Vincent Van Gogh and creating art in the style of his work. In RE, we are looking at why people pray. We are also learning how to count in French and running up to Christmas we are finding out what Christmas is like in France.

In topic in Autumn term 1, we will be learning all about The Vikings! In History, we will be looking at The Vikings and the Anglo-Saxons and exploring where they came from, the way they lived and their invasions. In Science, we will be classifying and describing rocks based on their appearance, whilst also looking at how they are formed and how they change over time. In DT, Year 3 will be investigating mechanisms and making a product using levers and linkages.




Our Literacy units this half term are Recounts and Quest Stories. We will be making close cross-curricular links to The Vikings throughout the Literacy work. Within their writing, we will be focusing on the use of punctuation including capital letters, full stops, question marks and apostrophes whilst learning about correct grammar and spellings.




This half term, we will be learning about Place Value. This will include representing numbers to 1000, finding 10 or 100 more or less than a number, using a number line to 1000 and comparing and ordering numbers. We will also be focusing on counting from 0 in 4s, 8s, 50s and 100s.
