Summer Two

 

This term we will be completing our topic about The Americas

 

We will be learning:

- The Mayan creation story.

- About the Mayan gods.

- To develop a piece of artwork using the Batik technique

- That lacrosse has its origins in a Native American sport and playing some lacrosse as a class

- The history of the indigenous peoples of The Americas focusing on: the Aztecs, the Mayans, the Incas and Native Americans

- About the traditional Inca instrument, the pan pipes, and look at how pitch is changed with this instrument

- Where in the World the Americas are

Summer One

 

This term we will continue our topic about Space as well as preparing for our SATS tests in May.

We will be learning: 

- To plan different types of scientific enquiry

- To take measurements using a range of equipment

- To record data and results of increasing complexity

- To use scientific diagrams and labels

-About the Space race and the Moon landing.

- To control a device using Lego

During this half term we will be focusing on the topic, ‘Space’

We will be learning:

- To describe the movement of Earth and other planets in relation to the Sun

- To understand the movement of the Moon in relation to Earth

- To explain day and day and the apparent movement of the Sun across the sky

Spring One

 

During this half term we will be focusing on the topic, 'The World at War'.

We will be learning the following things about World War Two:

- The Rise of Hitler

- The declaration of war

- Comparisons between Churchill and Chamberlain

- Rationing

- Concentration camps and reading 'The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas'

- Current day conflicts

 

In Science we will be focusing on:

- Evolution

- The work of Charles Darwin

- Inheritance

Great visit from the Imperial War Museum. We learnt about modern conflicts post WW2.

Autumn Two

 

During this term we will be focusing on the topic, 'The World at War'

We will be learning the following things about World War One:

- The reasons why the war began

- World One poetry

- The role of horses during World War One

- World War One artwork in charcoal

 - The Christmas Truce

 

In Science we will be focusing on:

- The circulatory system

- The digestive system

 - Puberty

 

Autumn One

 

This half term our topic will be 'Amazing Africa'. Below are a few things we will be learning about this half term:

- the countries which make up the African continent

- the main topographical features of Africa

- using and reading 4 and 6 figure grid references

- how Africa has changed over time

- classifying animals and plants

- lifecycles of animals and plants

- comparing animals and plants

On Friday 16th September we were visited by 'The Mighty Zulu Nation' as part of our stunning start for our Amazing Africa topic. We learnt about their culture as well as having lots of fun learning some traditional dances.
