This term we will be continuing the topic of the World at War and focus on World War 2.
In history we are going to be focusing on what life was like for the children of Britain throughout World War II. We will look at life during the Blitz and research the impact that air raids had and the causes of evacuation. We will also be looking at the reasons behind rationing and some of the things the people of Britain did to cope with food shortages.
In writing we will be creating our own flashback stories based on the short film 'The Piano' and thinking back to memories of soldiers in the war. In guided reading we are also reading 'Rose Blanche' and 'The Harmonica' which look at the experience of war from a child's perspective.
In science our topic is healthy lifestyles. We will be looking at the impact that our choices and different lifestyles have on our bodies.
This term we are also really excited for our STEM lessons where we will be combining our expertise in Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths to learn about how messages were transmitted during the War and trying to create a solution to a real problem during WW2.
This term we are lucky to be working with Mr Busby on a Friday afternoon learning Ultimate Frisbee and we will have Gymnastics on a Thursday Afternoon with Mr Walker.
This half term will be ending with our Fantastic Finish for the topic which is a trip to the Stockport Air Raid Shelters. This is a fantastic visit and something the children really take a lot away from. Year 5 will be visiting on Thursday 31st January.
