Reception Miss Hamm

Welcome to RKH

Your teacher this year will be Miss Hamm, and teaching assistants are Miss Stairmund (mornings, Monday/ Tuesday afternoon), Mrs Harrison (Wed/ Thurs/ Fri morning) and Miss Peet (afternoons), Mrs Chaisty (Wednesday, Thursday, Friday afternoon).

Children have settled in well to reception routines and are forming good relationships with others.

A day in reception...

  • We begin each day with a carpet session, with a literacy focus.
  • Free flow play in continuous provision to explore enhancements and pursue own learning. One adult will work with children in the environment and another will support a 'focus' activity.
  • At 11 o'clock we have a 20 minute 'Read Write Inc' phonics session.
  • Lunch is 11.30 - 12.45
  • We return to carpet to complete the register, complete 5 a day (exercise activity) and have a short maths group session.
  • Free flow play in continuous provision to explore enhancements and pursue own learning. One adult will work with children in the environment and another will support a 'focus' activity.
  • Tidy up time at 2.40
  • Story or song on the carpet at the end of the day.

Literacy

Literacy will be taught at the beginning of the day during a short carpet session. Lots of opportunities will be provided for children to continuously immerse themselves in reading and writing. Around the indoor and outdoor space there is inviting resources to encourage children to explore sounds, writing, story telling and reading.

We also have a phonics area indoors and follow the schools policy for teaching of phonics.

Phonics is taught daily following 'Read Write Inc' a synthetic phonics programme.

Numeracy

Children will have access to a wide range of materials to support mathematical development, learning to use skills taught to them in both teacher 'focus' activities and by exploring in continuous provision.

We have a maths area, with lots of open ended equipment that children can take to anywhere in the classroom to apply skills such as measurement, calculations and balance.
