Parent Information

Dear Parents and Carers,

The children have settled into school confidently and we are delighted with their hardworking attitude towards learning.  If you have any queries or concerns do not hesitate to come and see the class teacher - preferably at the end of the day as the morning can be a little hectic!

We will continue to work on a topic based approach to lessons, encouraging increased interest and purpose within the children’s learning. Further information about the curriculum can be found on our website in the curriculum section.

Please try to listen to your child read every day for 10 minutes or more and update your child’s reading record book each time you hear them. Reading books will be changed on a Wednesday, please try to ensure they have completed their book by that day so that we can change it. Your child will be reminded to put their books in a basket for changing but if reading records are not signed books cannot be changed. In addition, please ensure your child’s reading book and record are in school every day so we can hear your child read when possible.

Each term the children’s progress is assessed and will be communicated at parents’ evenings. These assessments are used to inform the children’s learning. Children will work towards completing the foundation stage profiles before being assessed against the age related expectations of Year 1. At the end of the year children will complete the national year one phonics test.

Dress Code

A reminder that only stud earrings may be worn for school and these must be taped — this is for the safety of all children. We also ask that all children come to school wearing school shoes. Please ensure that all of your child’s uniform, including their coat and shoes, is clearly named. Please could you also ensure that long hair is tied up in a bobble.

We ask that your child has a named PE kit in school every day.

Wednesday (indoor) and Friday (outdoor)

Written homework

Tuesday - Homework given out every week.

Monday - Homework to be returned.

Your child will be given a Maths and English based piece of homework each week, in addition to their reading books.  Parents/carers are asked to help their children with their homework each week. It is anticipated that no written homework should last more than 30 minutes but if your child appears to be struggling, please feel free to come and see us or write a note at the bottom of the homework. At times we may give an additional piece of homework related to the topic work if appropriate.

Topics for this year

We have planned to cover the following topics this year:

 Autumn term — Toys and Fire, Fire

 Spring term— Circle of Life

 Summer term — Who lives in a house like this?

Note, however, that these may sometimes change due to world events and the interests the children show.

We look forward to working with you and your child over the coming year.

If you have any concerns regarding your child, please pop in, our door is always open.  Please bear in mind mornings can be a little tricky as we are getting the children into school and settled; after school is always easier.

Milk is available for children in Year 1 at a cost of 15p per day or 75p for the week.

Please make sure all uniform including shoes and PE kit are named. If items then go astray they can be returned to your child.

Homework is collected in on Monday and given out on Tuesday.

Reading books are changed on a Friday. Please try to read with your child each night and sign the reading record as books will only be changed if they have been signed by an adult.

Street dance takes place on a Wednesday with Becky and PE kits must be worn.
