End of year expectations

In Preschool we follow the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) curriculum. We have lots of lovely resources in our classroom and our fantastic new outdoor area so we are always busy playing and learning together.

The EYFS curriculum is split into broad age bands which begin at 0-11 months upto 40-60 months (Reception).

  • Children entering preschool should be beginning to demonstrate skills in the 22-36 months age band.
  • Children leaving preschool at the end of the year should be beginning to show skills in the 30-50 months age band.

Our Curriculum

There are 6 areas of the EYFS curriculum.

Prime Areas

  • Personal, social and emotional development

  • Communication and language

  • Physical development

The Prime areas These skills are the foundations for children’s success in all other areas of learning and of life and underpin everything we do in preschool.

Specific Areas

  • Literacy

  • Mathematical development

  • Understanding of the world

  • Expressive arts and design

The Specific Areas These areas provide the range of experiences and opportunities for children to broaden their knowledge and skills.
